Put simply, the FMS (Functional Movement Screen) is a ranking and grading system that documents movement patterns that are key to normal function. By screening these patterns, the FMS readily identifies functional limitations and asymmetries. These are issues that can reduce the effects of functional training and physical conditioning and distort body awareness. By implementing this screen, we are able to zero in on primary disfunction’s that may be decreasing your performance and may also be the cause of your pain and or sports-related injuries.
The screen consists of 7 movement patterns, takes about 15 minutes to perform and can be done on your initial visit or at anytime during your treatment in our office. This assessment also includes online access to an exercise video gallery that is taylor-made to you based on how you perform the 7 FMS screens. For an even more in-depth assessment, we utilize the SFMA (Select Functional Movement Assessment). The functional movement screen was created by Gray Cook PT and one of many ways we address movement issues within our office.
